Curriculum/Tuition

T.R.A.C.E. Academy's curriculum philosophy echoes the relevance and learning needs of the contemporary child.  it is attentive to the standards set forth by the Hawaii Preschool Content Standards and National Association for the Education of Young Children.  It also attentive to Jean Piaget's philosophy of learning through play opportunities; Maria Montessori's philosophy of child-centered environments; John Dewey's philosophy of purposeful curriculum; Erik Erikson's theory of children's emotional and social development; and Lev Vygotsky's qualitatived and quantitative assessment of children's learning.  Furthermore, our Academy places high value in building strong healthy relationships with our students as one of the foundations for applying child-centered curriculum philosophy.

Teaching staff are trained on implementing developmentally appropriate practices, creating safe environments for engagement, instilling a sense of community in the classroom, and researching the current educational practices to deliver high quality and excellence in teaching young children. As a partner of the families we served, home activity sheets are sent home as an interactive learning tool for both parents and children. Students will be prepared for the next journey of learning in Kindergarten and beyond.

The child-centered curriculum incorporates a hands-on approach and well-balanced lesson plans daily. Skills learned include fine motor, gross motor, sorting/classifying, listening, visual perception/discrimination, and perceptual motor. These skills are foundation for literacy and early math skills. Children are also given opportunities that promote competency and mastery through self-help activities. Both toddlers and preschoolers learn thematic lessons in responsive interactions and age appropriate manner. Themes reflect meaningful work, physical development, creative expression and respect for diversity.
